Gender-based Violence (GBV) is one the most widespread human rights violations in the world. It affects women and girls disproportionally due to the underlying social injustice and power imbalance leading to gender inequality. In Cameroon, GBV prevalence is marked by higher rates of intimate partner violence and of child marriage, and despite being a national concern, addressed by various policies and a recently updated GBV National Strategy (GBVNS), progress towards the elimination of GBV are slow.
Voices from Cameroon (VC) is a qualitative assessment that captures women and girls' experience within the humanitarian context. It includes women and girls' challenges with GBV and other humanitarian services in general. VC primarily aims at supporting the development and implementation of humanitarian programmes to prevent and respond to Gender-Based Violence (GBV) . The report is also intended to be a resource for humanitarian workers’ programming within other sectors/clusters and also to inform and be included in the Humanitarian Needs Overview (HNO) and the Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP) as well as other programs in Cameroon.
