Cameroon has been grappling with a protracted crisis of conflict and instability for nearly a decade, resulting in an estimated 3.4 million people in need of humanitarian assistance in 2024. To address these needs, the humanitarian community has appealed for $371.4 million to support 2.3 million people through the 2024 Humanitarian Response Plan. As part of this effort, UNFPA has specifically requested $11,070,446 to bolster health and protection services, aiming to reach 722,625 individuals in need, as detailed in the Humanitarian Action Overview 2024. In 2024, armed clashes in the Far North, North West, and South West regions, compounded by severe flooding in the Far North, dramatically impacted access to gender-based violence (GBV) and Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) specialized services.
Despite this challenging context, UNFPA and its local partners provided a range of SRH and GBV services to 346, 945 persons, 74% of them were women and girls. Generous funding from the United States of America (United States Agency for International Development's Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance), Norway, Canada (Global Affairs Canada), the European Union (Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations), the UNFPA Emergency Fund and the United Nations Central Emergency Respond Fund allowed UNFPA to provide lifesaving sexual and reproductive health care and protection from gender-based violence to 48% of the targeted people in need and to reach 35.5% of 2024 financial requirement.
For the year 2025, the initial estimates by OCHA are of 3.3 Million persons in need of humanitarian assistance in Cameroon and the humanitarian community will target 2.1 million appealing for $359.3 million. The appeal included $ 27 million to respond to health needs and $ 21 million dedicated to the protection from gender-based violence. UNFPA’s Humanitarian Action Overview, in Cameroon, will help 991,250 people in need and is appealing to $ 9.01 million to support lifesaving GBV and SRH response.
The document herewith presents in detail the 2024 humanitarian response results achieved by UNFPA in Cameroon, as well as the 2025 Humanitarian Action Overview for the country-based response.
