NFPA Cameroon has distributed 289 dignity kits to women and girls in Boyo and Donga Mantung Divisions of the North West region of Cameroon. This is part of a project to provide comprehensive lifesaving GBV/SRH services to women and girls in crisis zones in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon, funded by the underfunded window of the United Nations' Central Emergency Fund (UN CERF).
Dignity kits contain essential hygiene items such as sanitary pads, underwear, soap, and towels, which are often difficult for women and girls to access in crisis settings. These kits help women and girls to protect their dignity and well-being during a time of displacement or of reduced access to such key items for menstrual health management or even clothes.
Speaking as they received the kits, women and girls expressed gratitude to UNFPA Cameroon for the gesture, and appreciated the quality of the products.
Besides dignity kit distribution, an activity considered to reduce the risks of GBV for women and girls, other key interventions of the project include the multi sectoral support to survivors of gender-based violence, and activities for the prevention of GBV.
The one-year project is targeting some 50,000 beneficiaries including IDPs, returnees, and members of host communities.
