Jointly with the Government, implementing partners and civil society organizations, UNFPA Cameroon kicked off the evaluation process of its 8th Country Program Document (CPD) with Cameroon (2022-2026). Nearly 40 stakeholders shared their understanding on the methodology and the scope of this evaluation during a workshop from 3-4 September 2024 in Mbankomo. This came before a team of independent consultants will carry out the task.
Noemi Dalmonte, Deputy Representative and Officer in Charge of UNFPA Cameroon and Loveena Doorkhony, Planning, M&E Adviser at UNFPA WCARO stressed that the upcoming evaluation is neither a program-end evaluation nor a review. It rather informs on progress performance and allows readjustment and acceleration.
Within the framework of the 8th CPD UNFPA committed to increasing by 10 % the proportion of skilled births attendance in its key areas of intervention. This could accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the realization of Three Transformative Results, namely: (i) Ending unmet needs for family planning, (ii) Ending preventable maternal deaths, and (iii) Ending Gender based Violence (GBV) and harmful practices, including child marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM).
Conducted under the co-leadership of the Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Integration and the UNFPA Country Resident Representative, this evaluation will take four to seven months. The outcome will provide early insights on potential trajectories of UNFPA-Cameroon cooperation in the next cycle and inspire the preparation of the next CPD.
