2007 UNFPA GLOBAL MEETING
Venue: Doral Forrestal Marriot – Princeton, New Jersey, USA
Period: 11 – 16th November, 2007

The 2008-2011 Strategic Plan charts a course of action for improved programme delivery within a new organisational structure at Country and Regional levels. It is within this backdrop that the Global meeting is being organised. The main objective of this meeting is to reach a common understanding on how to make operational this Strategic plan in the context of the ICPD agenda, the MDGs, the new aid environment and UN Reform. In this regard, the discussions of the Global meeting will be structured around three key areas;
  1. The External Environment and the Implications of the ICPD Agenda will centre around;

    • Reflections in a view of transforming UNFPA into an organisation of greater impact
    • Taking stock of opportunities and challenges
    • Exploring advantages and opportunities in relation to the UN reform, the Paris declaration and the new aid environment

  2. UNFPA’s Mandate and programme Delivery will concern itself with the operationalisation of the 2008-2011 Strategic plan including

    • The integration of population analysis into development planning, policy making and programming
    • Advancing issues of women’s empowerment, gender, culture and human rights
    • Providing humanitarian assistance
    • Enhancing capacity building to enable countries deliver a comprehensive package of RH services.

  3. Improving Performance Management and Accountability will dwell on

    • The review of accountability mechanisms in relation to finance, audit, material resources and people management.

    Improving internal communications, enhancing UNFPA’s visibility and funding opportunities in a highly competitive environment which is governed by donor fatigue, enhancing team spirit and performance, career development and better knowledge sharing of good practices, enhancing a solid team spirit, forming new allies, strengthening existing partnership, fostering capacity building and leadership skills, as well as enhancing South- South collaboration are all fundamental elements needed in the successful execution of the Strategic Plan over the next four years.
