The Executive Board has elected the followings as Bureau members of the 2008 Board:

  • President: H.E. Mr. J-M Ehouzou (Permanent Rep. Benin)

  • Vice-President: Mr. Thomas Gass (Switzerland)

  • Vice-President: Mr. Mahmudul Karim (Bangladesh)

  • Vice-President: Mr. Gustavo Endara (Ecuador)

  • Vice-President (still to be nominated - Eastern European States)

The UNDP/UNFPA Executive Board is made up of 36 members who are elected by the United Nations Economic and Social Council. As a guiding rule, each member country serves a term of three years, but specifically within the Western Europe and Other States group sometimes there may be some other internal arrangements re sharing of terms.
It is customary that at the beginning of each year the Executive Board elects a new Bureau consisting of one President and four Vice-Presidents (each from one of the five geographical regions). The Presidency of the Executive Board rotates each year to a different geographical region and for 2008 the Presidency is with Africa. Each regional group nominates one member from within its own group to serve on the Bureau. The First Regular Session of the Executive Board is scheduled to hold from the 21 to 28 January 2008, at the UN in New York.
